JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY, KOLKATA ADMISSION DETAILS 2018

Jadavpur University is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It has two campuses, the main campus at Jadavpur and the new campus at Salt Lake. It was upgraded to a full-fledged university in 1955. The University has its origin in the erstwhile National Council of Education. Jadavpur University has been ranked within Top 10 Indian Research Institutions as per report of International Comparative Performance of India’s Research Base.

The University offers UG, PG, and research courses in a variety of disciplines. The application form for the majority of UG and PG courses is made available on the university website and the admission to most of the courses is done around July.  

The admission to the technical courses is through different Entrance Tests and for the rest of them it is based on merit. The University follows reservation policy of the state of West Bengal which is available only to candidates who are domiciled in West Bengal.

The present article elaborates the following cycles of admission at the Jadavpur University:


There is a single entrance test (WBJEE) for the above-mentioned programs. The exam would be based on class XI, XII Syllabus. There will be two papers. Paper I will be of Mathematics for a duration of 2 hours. Paper II will be of Physics and Chemistry. Questions in the exam will be of multiple choice/ objective type.

In both the papers, questions will be classified in three categories based on the number of questions and the marking scheme. Based on the performance in this test, candidates will be selected for admission. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on the website.

Jadavpur University BA, B.Sc. and B.P.Ed. Admission

Jadavpur University offers undergraduate programs in the field of Arts, Science and Physical Educations. At present, the University offers 9 undergraduate degree programs in the arts stream, and 5 undergraduate degree programs in the Science stream, all for a duration of three years.


The Application process for the BA and B.Sc. programs is entirely online, but for B.P.Ed. program is partly online with the form to be submitted to the University. The admissions to the B.P.Ed. program begin in January and the BA and B.Sc. programs in the month of May.

For admission to these programs, the University conducts different entrance tests in case of B.P.Ed. and some of the BA programs. The admission to B.Sc. program is based on the score obtained in the Qualifying examination.

Jadavpur University ME/M.Tech, M.Pharm and M.Arch. Admission 
The University offers undergraduate programs in Engineering Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy. It offers B.E. Degree in 15 disciplines, B.Tech. Degree in 2 disciplines. The University also offers B.Pharm. and B.Arch. program.

For admission to the above-mentioned programs, you must have qualified the GATE or GPAT examinations or the Admission test conducted by the University. The final selection will be based on the score obtained in these examinations.

Jadavpur University M.Phil. and Ph.D. Admissions 
The University offers M.Phil. Degree program in 15 different disciplines and Ph.D. Program in 19 disciplines. The admission process for M.Phil. programs begins in the month of May and Ph.D. in the month of April every year.

The general eligibility requirement for application to M.Phil. program is a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline and for Ph.D. program is Master’s or M.Phil. Degree in relevant discipline. The application process is to be completed online including the payment of the Application fees.

The University conducts an Entrance test for selection of candidates for both the courses. Based on performance in Entrance Test, candidates are then shortlisted for a Personal Interview

Jadavpur University B.L.I.Sc and M.L.I.Sc Admission 
Jadavpur University offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs of Library Sciences. The eligibility criteria involves a minimum of Bachelor’s degree with additional criteria depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

The application process for both the programs is entirely online and usually begins in the month of April. The admission to B.L.I.Sc. Course is based on academic merit as well as work experience and certificate courses, if applicable. Whereas, the admission to M.L.I.Sc. is based equally in marks scored on qualifying exam and the Admission Test.

Jadavpur University MA, M.Sc. And M.P.Ed Admission 
Jadavpur University offers postgraduate programs in the field of Arts, Science and Physical Educations. At present, the University offers 16 postgraduate degree programs in the arts stream, and 7 undergraduate degree programs in the Science stream. All the programs are for a duration of three years.

The admission to these programs is entirely online. Selection to the MA and M.Sc. programs is based on the Entrance Test and marks obtained in the qualifying exam. For M.P.Ed. Degree, candidates have to qualify the Written Exam as well as the Practical test conducted by the university around the month of April.

Jadavpur University MCA Admissions 
Jadavpur University offers MCA program through its Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The application process for the program is online and begins in the month of May.

The admission to the program is based on the WB JECA Entrance Exam. The exam is conducted in Computer Based Test mode. It consists of two papers. The first two hours are for Paper 1 based on Mathematics and the third hour is for Paper 2 having Aptitude based questions. Based on the performance in this test, candidates will be selected for admission. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on the website.
